The Edexcel BTEC Level 4 Higher NationalCertificate (HNC) in Hair and Beauty Management (QCF) course provides aspecialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding andpractical skills required in the hair and beauty sector. This course focuses on:
- Equipping learners with the relevant skills and knowledge required to manage a beauty salon or running their own salon business
- Providing learners with a solid foundation in management skills, which can either be appliedto the hair and beauty sector, or be transferred to other industries and sectors
- Offering learners opportunities to develop practical, specialist skills in hairdressing, beautytherapy, aromatherapy, complementary therapies.
- Learners must be able to meet one of the following criteria:
- A Level 3 qualification in beauty therapy
- A GCE Advanced level profile which demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subjector an adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to besupported by GCSE grades at A* to C
- Other related Level 3 qualification
- Related work experience (The Edexcel BTEC Level 4 HNC in Hair and Beauty Management offers a progression route for those who are already employed in the Hair and Beauty sector and wish to progress to Hair and Beauty management)
- Mature learners with a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include
- extensive work experience (paid and/or unpaid) and/or achievement of a range of professional qualifications in their work sector.
Learners studying for Edexcel BTEC Higher National Certificate in Hair and Beauty Management (QCF) will be expected to develop the following skills during the programme of study:
- The ability to manage themselves, others and practices within the hair and beauty sector
- The ability to analyse, synthesise and summarise information critically
- The ability to read and use appropriate literature with a full and critical understanding
- The ability to think independently and solve problems
- The ability to apply subject knowledge and understanding to address familiar and unfamiliar problems
- The capacity to give a clear and accurate account of a subject, assemble arguments in a mature way and engage in debate and dialogue both with specialists and non-specialists.
